Investigations Lieutenant

The Criminal Investigations Bureau is one unit within the Support Services Division. The Investigations Bureau consists of a Lieutenant, 3 Sergeants, 14 investigators, and a civilian secretary.

The Investigations Bureau investigates crimes against persons, property crimes, forgeries, and auto thefts, among others. Included within the Investigations Bureau is the Narcotics Unit. The Narcotics Unit handles all drug investigations. The Unit is made up of 1 Sergeant and 4 Investigators.

Major crimes and other criminal activities frequently require considerable time in follow-up investigation, evidence gathering, and interviewing witnesses and suspects, which is often beyond the scope of the patrol officers. The investigators augment the initial investigation by the patrol officer who first responds to the report of a crime. The investigator is responsible for following all possible leads, leading to the apprehension of the criminal offender. Upon successful completion of the investigation, the Investigator presents the case to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office for a criminal complaint.
