City of Joplin Tornado Information

Welcome to the City of Joplin Police Department Website!

The Joplin Police Department serves a population of approximately 50,000 citizens (swelling to approximately 270,000 on any given day) within a 35 square mile area.  Our authorized number of officers is 111, and we are supported by a staff of 52 civilian employees.

The department is comprised of the Patrol bureau, Investigations bureau, Administration, Special Enforcement bureau, and Support Services.  Each area plays a vital role in the success of our department.

Joplin Police Department is an internationally accredited police service, with the mission of delivering high quality, professional police services to Joplin’s citizens and visitors.  The department’s philosophy lends to a highly trained and competent staff that is innovative in its approach to crime control, traffic safety, and improving the quality of life for our citizens.

The City of Joplin is located in the southwest corner of Missouri at the intersection of Interstate 44 and US 71 highways.  Our department has been serving the citizens and visitors to Joplin since 1873.  This website is dedicated to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our community.  Click on FALLEN HEROES to learn about their stories.

We hope that you enjoy your time touring the website.  Any questions about our department can be answered by calling 417-623-3131 or by email @ lratcliff@joplinmo.org
