Next Testing Date is October 14, 2000.  Call for details !

    Testing for police officer in the City of Joplin usually occurs twice a year; April and September.  The testing procedure is as follows, however, it may be modified at any time without notice.

Applicants perform physical agility test including:
1 1/2 mile run
Obstacle Course
4 X 25 yard relay
Car push
Dummy Drag
Written examination
Background check
Oral Interviews
Polygraph or voice stress test
Final Interview with Command Staff Officers
Drug Test
Post employment physical examination

All candidates are graded on the above listed tests and their education and experience as a police officer.  Those officers passing (70% or better) are placed on an eligibility list.  As openings come available, the position will be offered to the candidate highest on the list.

In order to test for police officer, the candidate must be at least 20 years of age and be enrolled or have completed the Missouri, P.O.S.T. approved police academy.   Exceptions will be made for those officers planning to enroll, however, they will not be offered a position until they complete the academy.  They will simply be on the eligibility list.
